With the invention of the electric light, our working and living patterns have changed – we now spend close to 90% of our lives indoors. We no longer get enough natural light to benefit our physical and psychological health. But by balancing the amount and type of natural vs artificial light each day, and varying it as the seasons pass, we can influence mood, sleep and even weight regulation.
If you are looking to boost your health and well-being, one of the easiest ways to achieve it is through lighting.
With more and more of us working from home, surrounding yourself with contrasting scents can define the areas where you work and relax to ultimately, create a subconscious divide between you working at your desk vs actually living in your home. In fact, by using home fragrance to establishing zones within your home, you can aid making that switch between, work, leisure, social gatherings, self care or sleep.

Colour psychology tells us the epitome of cheerfulness, yellow, promotes positive thoughts of optimism and happiness. It can invigorate and nurture, boost energy and enthusiasm. Packed full of benefits, scientists have proven exposure to yellow increases serotonin levels, it is literally a gift of happiness!
But Why does yellow make us happy?
The Spring Equinox marks the biggest turning point of the year, at long last winter is over and the earth is literally coming alive with new beginnings as the days lengthen and the sun grows warmer. Why not harness this natural boost to further new projects
Why does nature make us feel good?
We all know of the now well established link between nature and relaxation, spending twenty minutes on a woodland walk or beachcombing along the shore can have a powerful effect on our mood and overall well-being. But did you know that the reason behind this lies within natural fractals?
As an interior designer, my goal was always to build a home of my own. And beginning in 2020, after five years of preparation, I was lucky enough to do just that.
During the process of planning, designing, managing & building my new house, I realised that I wanted to take a more holistic view of the design process. Besides looking for architectural rhythm, scale and balance based on the usual interior design principles, I sought new influences and sources of inspiration, particularly regarding biophilic design and seasonal living. I aimed to create a space that could positively influence the physical and mental behaviour of its occupants, myself and my family.
What I learned profoundly changed my interior design methodology. And I want to keep going, to keep learning and to keep evolving to make each space the very besit it can be to meet the challenges that modern living brings.
So this year, I shall kick off each season by compiling a list of interior design & wellness rituals to regularly change my perspective. Through these, I aim to seek the pockets of joy to be found in the everyday and enjoy the mindfulness of the natural magic unfolding as the seasons pass.
Let’s embrace the joy of each season!
Each month I want to explore the themes of interior & biophilic design, seasonal rituals & diy projects to nourish my mind and create a happy and healthy home.
